A Florida that Works for the People

Environment - A Cleaner Future

Our waters are not clean. Our wildlife is suffering. We need legislation that protects our environment now and maintains our way of life for the future. We need legislation that is based on scientific evidence, addresses all the identified threats, and gets results. Florida is one of the most beautiful places in the world but its beauty is fragile and complex. Years of reckless expansion, development and environmentally unsafe business practices have resulted in extensive degradation. Our shores and homes are at risk from seawater rise, intensifying hurricanes, droughts that lead to wildfires, and flooding. We can no longer ignore the role we play in these changes. We must act now.

Education - A Brighter Future

Our public schools and education system are under attack. Recent legislation passed in Tallahassee has targeted our teachers and the quality of our curriculum. Special interest groups are funding activists that attend school board meetings to ban books. Funding to our districts has been cut, year after year, and funneled to for-profit charter schools and private schools. This is not how a nation develops its most promising future minds. All Florida students have the right to attend safe, fully-funded, and academically-enriching schools that teach them the basics of math, reading, writing, and accurate history that represents all students. They have a right to a supportive environment to learn social skills and cooperative skills while developing their artistic and technological skills. Our teachers should be supported with school supplies, adequate pay, and professional development. Our schools need real representation, support and leadership in Tallahassee, and they need it now.

Economy - A Booming Future

Florida families are struggling. Inflation is stifling. Gas prices are high. Workers are demanding higher wages and are refusing to accept low-paying jobs that do not appreciate them. On the other hand, the job market is exploding and there are more jobs than workers right now. We need to develop Florida into a state that supports local small businesses so they can grow, expand and promote from within. Our small businesses are the backbone of our economy and they should be rewarded for their entrepreneurship with economic policies that create an environment for success. Workers should have good jobs that pay well and provide opportunities for development. Florida should be the small business state right now.

Health Care - A Healthy Future

The health care system in the United States is second to none. We have brilliant doctors, caring nurses, and widely available medical care. But for some, health care remains a luxury. Constrained by either a lack of insurance to pay for it or a lack of services because of location, not all Floridians can get something as basic to human life as medical treatment. Some will be bankrupted by a serious illness, some cannot afford the medication to treat a chronic condition, some will choose between prescriptions and basic needs. None of them should have to. Medicaid expansion and affordable healthcare opportunities must happen now.

Civil Rights - A Freer Future

Our Constitution protects our rights from infringement by the government but the rights of some are being threatened. A woman’s right to choose, a student’s right to life, a citizen’s right to elect their preferred candidate, everyone’s right to privacy and self-determination. All are at risk. We must enshrine these rights and protect them from infringement for all our citizens. The time to ensure our freedoms is now.

Before we can begin to work on these problems, we must first face the biggest one.
